Flavoured Tea
Add a little flavour to your life with our wide selection of Flavoured Teas! Be blown away by the taste sensations of marvellous beverages such as Chai Tea, Earl Grey Tea and even Moroccan Mint Tea and many more. Contrary to popular belief, Flavoured Teas are not a new phenomenon; they date back thousands of years, perhaps even near to the time of Tea’s discovery in 2737 BCE.
The earliest examples of Flavoured Teas used herbs, spices, oils and fruit, which were added individually to the brews. As new ingredients were considered, so too were new techniques of flavouring.

Arguably one of the most famous types of Flavoured Tea is Chai Tea, a quintessentially Indian beverage created following its discovery in India using Assam Tea, in 1823. Before then, herbal infusions closely resembling Chai Tea existed, but Chai Teas as we know and love them today were popularised during the late 19th and early 20th Century.
Today, Chai Tea recipes vary from region to region; village to village; and even household to household. They include a range of herbs and spices, with common ingredients including cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, pepper and star anise.
Another famous Flavoured Tea is Earl Grey Tea. This particular Tea has mysterious origins, with no one really knowing how it came to be. According to legend, the 19th Century British Prime Minister, Earl Grey (1764-1845), before his tenure, travelled to China for a diplomatic mission.
There, he one day saved a boy from drowning in a river. The father of the boy, in his gratitude, gifted the Lord with Black Tea leaves scented with bergamot oil, and eventually, the tea was named Earl Grey in his honour. However, no records exist that suggest that he ever visited China in his life, so the story remains unfounded!
Moroccan Mint Tea, meanwhile, is an example of a Flavoured Green Tea, specifically a Gunpowder Green Tea. As the name would suggest, the ingredient used to flavour this is, you guessed it, mint!
Many historians believe that Gunpowder Teas arrived in Morocco during the late 17th or early 18th Century. Mint, on the other hand, had been prevalent in Moroccan society for many centuries prior to these two ingredients combining to make Moroccan Mint Tea.
Traditionally, Moroccan Mint Tea is offered to guests invited into households across Morocco. Today, we invite you to try it wherever you are, as well as all our other Flavoured Teas available here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
