Welsh Breakfast Tea BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) is a Black Tea Blend that goes hand in hand with our English, Irish and Scottish Breakfast Teas.
It consists of leaves from the Dufflaghur Estate in the Sonitpur District of Assam, India, as well as Kenya in East Africa. Such a combination is, put simply, exquisite, providing a deep malty aroma with distinct nutty notes.
Then there is its caffeine content, which amounts to around 45-mg per 8-oz cup. Better still, according to evidence from countless scientific studies, it comes with Black Tea benefits.
Regardless of whether you’re Welsh, our Welsh Breakfast Tea BOP is bound to impress from first to last sip. We pack it fresh to order here at our Kent-based factory, ensuring quality and consistency, time and time again.
The Assam Tea in This Blend
The Assam Dufflaghur Tea Estate from where we get a sizable proposition of the Tea for Welsh Breakfast Tea BOP – was established in 1917. It today supports more than 2,500 workers who nurture the Tea bushes harvested for its making.
While not as well known as other Tea gardens in the region, Dufflaghur nevertheless produces high-calibre leaves. These, of course, are the ones we use to make this blend.
The Kenya Tea in This Blend
Kenya has cultivated Tea since the early 20th century – a relatively recent occurrence compared to China’s 5,000-year history of Tea. However, it now accounts for approximately 50% of the UK’s Tea imports.
We use Kenya Milima Tea, in particular, which is where the leaves grow at altitudes of 6,000 feet or above. The name “Milima,” in fact, broadly means “high place” in Swahili.
