Russian Breakfast Tea is a hearty Black Tea blend. The name “Russian” refers not to the origins of the leaves; rather, its full-bodied flavour broadly lends itself to the tastes of those in Russia.
This is, in fact, a blend of Chinese Keemun Tea and Kenya orthodox leaf Tea. Every sip boasts chocolatey, velvet notes and a rich brightness – a true delight from start to finish.
The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company has close ties to the Russian Tea industry. Owner Mr Richard Smith’s great-grandparents, Robert Sr and Helen Stammers, sold Tea machinery across the Eastern European country in the early-1900s.
We now pack Russian Breakfast Tea, like all of our Loose Tea and Coffee types, fresh to order here at our Kent-based factory.
About Russian Tea
An estimated 80% of the Russian population drink Tea of some kind or another. However, most Camellia sinensis (Tea) plants don’t grow in Russia, but China and India.
There are examples of Tea-growing in the country, although it is mostly limited to small areas such as Krasnodar and Sochi. For the most, then, the term “Russian Tea” refers to its immense popularity there.
Despite the lack of production in Russia, the nation boasts one of the strongest Tea cultures in the world, one that started some 400 years ago.
Factors such as the cold climate, location, and proximity to Tea-cultivating countries ensured that brewing up a cuppa became an integral part of society. Little has changed today, with it playing a significant role in family and togetherness.
Most famous of all is Russian Caravan Tea, a type similar to Lapsang Souchong (a smoked Black Tea). Our Russian Breakfast Tea, of course, is also immensely popular – not only in Russia but around the world.
Aside from its taste, it has a relatively high amount of caffeine (approx. 45-mg per 8-oz cup) and, potentially, health benefits. What’s not to like from your new favourite infusion?

Russian Breakfast Tea Benefits
This Loose Leaf Tea, like all types of Black Tea, contains a wealth of vitamins, minerals and other antioxidants.
Its frequent consumption, as such, can slow down the natural, though often harmful process of oxidation by neutralising free radicals in the body. This ultimately leads to a reduced risk of developing a multitude of chronic conditions.
But that’s not all. Studies indicate that it can boost the metabolism of fat cells, thus promoting weight loss. It can also support the immune system while aiding digestion.
If that wasn’t enough, early evidence suggests it might enhance brain function. Whatever you’re looking for from your brew, you’ve undoubtedly chosen well with Russian Breakfast Tea.
