Rosehip Tea Botany and History
Rosehips are just one component of the Rose (Rosa) plant, which belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is a herbaceous shrub found in both Eastern and Western hemispheres, although it likely originated from Persia (modern-day Iraq and Iran).
Rosehips follow after its flowering season, and are easily recognised by their resemblance to crabapples.
People have consumed Rosehips and Rosehip Tea since prehistoric times. However, it was during the Second World War (1939-1945) that this remarkable, nutritional herb came into its own.
Indeed, when German blockades halted large quantities of vital supplies to Britain, including Vitamin C-filled citrus fruit, Rosehips became a suitable substitute.
During this period, the UK government actively encouraged the public to harvest and make foodstuffs out of Rosehips. It proved to be a tremendous success, although its popularity waned following the conflict’s conclusion.
Now, however, Rosehip Tea is once again immensely sought-after. Buy it from The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company today.
