What do you want from your morning cuppa’? If it’s a smoothness, richness, maltiness like no other, then our Portsmouth Loose Tea 500g is the choice for you. This beverage was made for the people of Portsmouth; however, its popularity increased so much that now, one can find it all over the world. We’re proud to stock it, and are proud of the fact that like all of our Teas, it is packed fresh to order here in our Kent-based factory, nestled away within the stunning vistas of the Southeastern English countryside.
Created using a blend of only the finest quality Assam BP Teas (“BP” standing for “Broken Pekoe”), Portsmouth Tea has much to offer the avid consumer. Aside from tasting great, it can promote health-living owing to its abundance of beneficial antioxidants. These antioxidants combat free radicals in the body, which in turn reduces the risks of developing numerous chronic conditions, namely cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes.
But why choose Assam? Today, this renowned Indian State is considered the “hub” of the country’s Tea Industry. Surrounded by the northern Himalayas, the Brahmaputra plains and the Deccan plateau, the region is one of the richest biodiversity zones in the world. Assam has an annual rainfall of between 2,500-3,000mm, with high humidity throughout the year. These conditions make for perfect Tea-growing, as our Portsmouth Leaf Tea 500g establishes clearly.
However, while Chinese Tea dates back to 2737 BCE (allegedly), Assam Tea, as well as Indian Tea as a whole, only dates back to 1823, making it a relatively new creation! A Scottish explorer and merchant named Robert Bruce discovered Tea growing in Assam during the time of the British Raj. Since then, the Industry has boomed, giving rise to excellent Teas such as our Portsmouth Tea. So, what are you waiting for? Find out what makes it so special today.
