Green Tea Origins
This particular Green Tea originates from Jiangxi. However, other provinces also produce it, including Zhejiang (known for Gunpowder Tea) and Anhui (often associated with Keemun Tea). The story of Green Tea as a whole, on the other hand, might have started in Yunnan some 5,000 years ago. Although few historical records exist, there is one particularly interesting legend worth recounting.
The story begins with an ancient Chinese Emperor named Shennong in 2737 BCE. After a day of experimenting with herbs, Shennong decided to rest under an unknown tree.
He eventually fell asleep in the midday sun with a cup of boiling water by his side. While the Emperor dozed, a gust of wind came through the tree. Leaves fell to the ground, with some landing in Shennong’s drink.
The leaves began to infuse with the water. When Shennong awoke, he discovered a strange, greenish beverage next to him. Intrigued, he decided to try it. The Emperor was delighted by its scent and delicious taste.
He felt invigorated and refreshed. Shennong had, it turned out, discovered Green Tea – or so the tale goes. One way or another, it eventually gave rise to Moon Palace Chun Mee Green Tea.
