History of Lemon Verbena
The name ‘Aloysia citrodora’ is not, in fact, the first botanical name associated with Lemon Verbena. Originally, the French botanist Philibert Commerson (1727-1773) dubbed it ‘Aloysia triphylla’.
Commerson took specimens of the plant to the Royal Botanical gardens in Madrid. There, the Spanish physicians and botanists, Casimiro Gomez Ortega and Antonio Paulau y Verdera, changed the botanical name of the plant to what we know today.
This name-change was in honour of Maria Luisa Teresa de Parma (1751-1819), who became the wife of King Carlos IV, and ultimately, Queen of Spain. Even now, Lemon Verbena sometimes goes by the nickname ‘Herb Luisa’ (or ‘Herb Louisa’) in her recognition.
Which Tea Bags Contain Plastic?
Is there plastic in Tea bags? Unfortunately, yes – or at least when you buy from other sources. The alternative, then, is to choose Tea Bags without plastic with The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
We have recently moved away from microplastics in Tea Bags due to the harm they cause to the environment. Instead, we have opted for plant-based materials when making our products.
The term associated with this is “bioplastic,” which, despite sounding scary, is far better for mother nature than petrochemicals. They’re considered Biodegradable Tea Bags, too, thus making them a win on all fronts.
