Ko Kie Cha, or ‘Kokie Cha’, is a Japanese Green Tea. To create it, Tea producers grind raw leaves and stems into a powder. They then mix it with water and pass it through a mesh. This creates ‘strands’ of Tea. In terms of its flavour, it sits somewhere between Gyokuro Green Tea and Sencha.
Indeed, when brewed, Ko Kie Cha is low in caffeine and high in taste. It boasts distinct nutty notes with grassy undertones. According to studies, it also comes with health benefits. Research suggests that it can aid digestion and enhance cognitive function.
About Japanese Green Tea
Tea arrived in Japan through Buddhism. Initially, two monks named Saicho and Kukai transported Tea plants from China. It wasn’t popularised, however, for another four hundred years, specifically 1211 CE, when a monk named Eisai wrote a book entitled “Kissa Yojoki – How to Stay Healthy by Drinking Tea”.
The two-volume publication highlights many Green Tea benefits. In one extract, it read: “Tea is the ultimate mental and medicinal remedy and has the ability to make one’s life more full and complete”. Japan hasn’t looked back since.
Today, Tea continues to have a significant role to play in Japanese culture. Most famous of all is the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Teas to have originated from Japan have become increasingly popular in recent years. Some connoisseurs indeed prefer them to China Green Teas!
Ko Kie Cha, in particular, is the choice brew of many. We pack it fresh to order here at our Pluckley-based factory, nestled within the beautiful Kentish countryside.
