Kenya Blend is a coffee with character. Despite being a blend by name, it is made exclusively with Kenyan-grown coffee beans that come from different regions of the country. Noted for its strong, rounded taste and medium roast, Kenya Blend is a great introduction to the world of Kenyan coffee. All of our coffees, be them of single origin or, like this one, a blend, are roasted with the latest state-of-the-art Neuhaus Neotec fluidised air-bed system, which primarily uses convection heat transfer to roast the beans.
Our quality-assured Kenya Blend is everything you’d expect and more from one of the most renowned coffee-growing hubs in the world. If you, like many, cannot decide on which Kenya Coffee is right for you, then choose Kenya Blend and have the best of multiple Kenyan coffees.
The story of Kenyan coffee began in 1893 which, to many, seems strange accounting for the fact that coffee was first discovered in neighbouring Ethiopia hundreds of years before! Nevertheless, after attaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1863, the newly-formed Kenyan government built upon the foundations of the country’s formerly colonial Coffee Industry. Today, it is bigger and better than ever.
Ruiri, Thika, Kirinyaga, Mt Kenya West, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Muranga are some of the best-known coffee-growing regions in Kenya. Each regional coffee boasts its own distinct flavours, many of which have been combined in the making of our Kenya Blend.
The Coffee Industry of Kenya involves many small farms and cooperatives as well as some larger estates. On average, cooperatives produce about 55% of Kenya’s coffee while 45% is produced by more commercial estates. Combined, around six million Kenyans work in the industry with most farms consisting of anywhere between 50 and 500 trees spread out over 160,000 hectares of land.
Choosing our Kenya Blend is not only choosing quality, but also ethics. The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company source every one of our Kenya Coffees – including, of course, our Kenya Blend – from only sustainable sources, ensuring fair trade and stability for smallholder farmers and their families. Ultimately, buying Kenya Blend is supporting the communities that grow it. We are a company of family values and are committed to maintaining our good name in every aspect of our business; Kenya Blend is a perfect example of just that.
