Guatemalan Rainforest Alliance Coffee belongs to our unique range of Ethical Coffees. It is certified by the Rainforest Alliance, an international non-profit organisation focused on the sustainability of Coffee-growing land, among other things, before reaching the nurturing hands of The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
We are committed to supporting the welfare of our planet. By choosing our Guatemalan Rainforest Alliance Coffee, you are showing that same commitment. In recent years, Guatemala’s Coffee Industry has become increasingly popular; this is partly due to the influence and support of organisations such as The Rainforest Alliance who have built a network of farmers, forests, communities, scientists, environmentalists and businesses dedicated to conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
Our Guatemalan Rainforest Alliance Coffee, in particular, is a well-balanced speciality Coffee delivering a delicate blend of sweet citric acidity and medium-body. It originates from the Nueva Granada Estate in Guatemala, meaning it is not only an Ethical Coffee but also a Single Origin Coffee, a popular choice made by Coffee connoisseurs around the world.
All of our Coffees, including Guatemalan Rainforest Alliance Coffee, are roasted using the latest state-of-the-art Neuhaus Neotec fluidised air-bed system, which primarily uses convection heat transfer to roast the beans. The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company have roasted Coffees for over 30 years, so experience is on our side.
Once roasted, all of our Coffees, as well as our Teas and Tisanes, are packed fresh to order here in our Kent-based factory. We are proud of the work we do here and are even more proud to be working with incredible organisations such as The Rainforest Alliance to make this world a better place for future generations while delivering on the promise of delicious Ethical Coffees.
But why choose a Guatemalan Coffee? Beans grown and produced in Guatemala, when brewed, can be the perfect balance of full-bodied, strong and sweet, with gentle acidity, and complex flavour notes. They are the secret favourite of many a Coffee connoisseur; however, the secret is out.
Traditionally, Guatemala grows arabica Coffee beans. The country’s growing regions include the Fraijanes Plateau, Antigua, Highland Huehuetenango, Rainforest Cobán, Volcán San Marcos, Nuevo Oriente and Atitlan. The Nueva Granada estate is located in the San Marcos region, nestled between the two tallest volcanoes in Guatemala – Tajumulco and Tanana. While both volcanoes are dormant, Coffees grown at the Nueva Granada estate are found on their mountainous slopes in fertile soil made rich by volcanic ash.
The Rainforest Alliance has long supported the Nueva Granada estate by teaching its owners and workers to protect the nearby rivers and streams, as well as letting the bordering vegetation grow thick and uncut. This ultimately provides corridors for small wild animals throughout the farm, meaning the ecosystem of Nueva Granada is at an all-time high, which in turn has a tremendously positive effect on the quality of the beans grown there.
