Ethiopian Sidamo Coffee is one of the most popular types of Gourmet Coffee we stock. It comes from Ethiopia, the birthplace of Coffee, specifically the area once known as the Sidamo Province.
Our Ethiopian Sidamo’s roasting profile is “medium-roast.” We make it with the latest state-of-the-art Neuhaus Neotec fluidised air-bed system. We then pack it fresh to order.
Ethiopian Sidamo Tasting Notes
Perhaps most important is to discover Ethiopian Sidamo’s flavour profile. Connoisseurs describe it as having bold notes of blackcurrant and red cherry. Smooth, aromatic and fruity to the last drop, it is a true delight to the senses.
The bottom line is that Ethiopian Sidamo Coffee tastes like a piece of heaven. But what is the story behind it? Where did it all begin?
Where is Ethiopian Sidamo Coffee From?
Ethiopian Sidamo Beans are some of the first such beans known to humans – and goats. Legend has it that a goat herder stumbled upon his animals grazing on an unknown plant.
He observed as they pranced about, seemingly energised, and so he decided to try it for himself. News of his discovery spread fast, though many believed it to be the work of dark forces. The reality was that it was Caffeine in Coffee.
Today, the Sidamo region (formerly Sidamo Province) continues to impress with its outstanding Coffee production. Some 15 million people are employed in the country’s thriving Coffee industry, many of whom work at elevations between 1,500 and 2,200 metres above sea level.
These beans from Ethiopia account for around 3% of the global Coffee market. They remain ever-trendy and sought-after.
Ethiopian Sidamo vs Yirgacheffe
A common misconception is that Ethiopian Sidamo Green Coffee Beans and those of Yirgacheffe Coffee are two separate entities. The truth is a little more complicated.
The Yirgacheffe sub-region is, in fact, within Sidamo. However, growing conditions exclusive to Yirgacheffe lead to distinctions in flavour and character. Sidamo is a full-bodied brew, while Yirgacheffe is lighter on the palate.
Does Ethiopian Sidamo Coffee Have Caffeine?
Having an Ethiopian Sidamo Espresso to get you out of bed in the morning is an excellent choice. This is because it contains high levels of caffeine – around 100-mg per serving.
Whether you’re here for its taste, energising qualities, renown or the fact that it is a Single Origin Coffee, you’ve chosen well. Be sure to buy it from The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
