About Ratnapura District
When one thinks of Ceylon Tea, thoughts often drift to four famous areas: Dimbula, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Uva. Ceylon Ratnapura Special FOP, on the other hand, comes from, as its name suggests, the Ratnapura district of Sabaragamuwa Province.
This region lies to the southwest of the island but in the interior. It is one of two districts found here, the other being Kegalle.
Ratnapura is also the provincial capital of Sabaragamuwa, known to many as the “City of Gems”. This nickname refers to the area’s thriving gem-mining industry.
However, it also, of course, produces Ceylon Tea, which grows in the so-called low-country. The surrounding terrain is a mixture of hills and plains, scenery that, while beautiful, also contributes significantly to the outstanding quality of this beverage.

Ceylon Ratnapura Special FOP Benefits
Health Benefits: Could habitual Tea drinking (at least three times a week) support a longer, healthier life? It seems likely! This is according to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, which saw 100,902 participants split into two groups.
The first group was comprised of volunteers who drank three or more cups of Tea a week. The second group, meanwhile, included those who drank less than three brews a week.
Both sets of test subjects were followed-up for a median of 7.3 years, the results ultimately establishing that 50-year-old habitual Tea drinkers had a 20% lower risk of developing coronary heart disease.
Additionally, scientists noted that these same brew lovers could live up to 1.26 years longer than someone who never or seldom drank Tea.
