Facts About Hunan Province, China
Hunan is a landlocked province on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. It neighbours Guangxi to the southwest, Guizhou to the west, Hubei to the north, and Jiangxi to the east.
Easily recognisable by its mountainous terrain and warm yet temperate climate, Hunan’s conditions are perfect for Tea-growing. In fact, it is the second-largest producer of Loose Leaf Tea in China.Â
What Teas Come from Hunan Province?Â
Typically high-grown in the Hunan Tea hills, are far-reaching. One of our most popular varieties is Mao Jian Hunan Green Tea. This infusion starts as small, wiry green leaves with slight curves. Such is the unique appearance that many call it “eyebrow Tea”.
When brewed, it has a delicately vegetal flavour. Yet, its initial production originated from Henan Province, not Hunan.Â
Another sought after choice is Hunan Jasmine Tea, consisting of a large loose leaf of the Super Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (SFTGFOP) grade.
Here you will find a delicately floral scent wafting from the cup before one indulges in sweet, butter-like flavours. Those who crave rarity, on the other hand, would do well with Kekecha Yellow Tea, a partially oxidised Tea known for its fruity taste.Â
Drinking Tea in Hunan and Beyond
The unmistakable richness of Hunan’s tea history and culture means that connoisseurs should take extra care when brewing its infusions. When making a cup of fresh Green Tea, you’ll want equally fresh water to boil.
However, be sure to allow it to cool to temperatures between 75°C and 80°C to avoid burning the leaves. All that’ll be left, then, will be to sit back, relax, and enjoy in peace and harmony.
