Butterfly Pea Flower Tea is a rare and unique Herbal Tea. It comes from a plant most commonly found in South-East Asian countries, where it has long been brewed and enjoyed for its health benefits.
Ours originates from the Phetchabun region of Thailand. When it arrives at our Kent-based factory, we pack it fresh to order, thereby ensuring quality and consistency.
Butterfly Pea Tea History and Botany
This is an infusion made from flowers of the Clitoria ternatea plant, belonging to the Fabaceae family. It goes by many names, including Asian Pigeonwings, Butterfly Pea, Cordofan Pea, Darwin Pea, Bluebellvine, and, simply, Blue Pea.
The frequent appearance of the word “blue” is no coincidence. Each petal has a distinct blue tint, a trait that transcends when made into Butterfly Pea Loose Leaf Tea.

You probably want to know what Butterflower Pea Flower Tea tastes like. Those who don’t wish to be overpowered by their brew have chosen well here. It has a delicate earthy note with woody undertones, somewhat akin to mild Green Tea.
Things get interesting when you add a slice of lemon. Apart from offering a citrusy kick, the liquid changes colour from blue to purple due to the altering of the pH level.
Does Butterfly Pea Tea Have Caffeine?
Caffeine exists in around sixty plants. It is a stimulating chemical compound that, upon consumption, provides an energy boost to get us out of bed in the morning. However, too much can cause issues such as jitteriness and sleeplessness.
While other Butterfly Pea Tea side effects might occur, caffeine overconsumption is not one of them. This is because there is none of it to be found within these petals.

Butterfly Pea Tea Weight Loss
Butterfly Pea Tea benefits might even apply to your waistline. This could be because it boosts the metabolism of fat cells, enabling the body to burn fat quicker and more efficiently.

Is Butterfly Pea Tea Safe for Pregnancy?
Medical experts haven’t yet determined whether Butterfly Tea is safe during pregnancy. We therefore recommend you err on the side of caution and avoid consuming it. The same rules we would apply to breastfeeding mothers.
