How to Make Green Tea Ice Cream
Ice cream is an indulgent delight known and loved globally. To say there are a fair few flavours would be a colossal understatement. Among them is the one you’re about to try here.
But before we show you how to make Green Tea ice cream, there are a couple of things to note. First off, if you’re wondering, “Is Green Tea ice cream healthy?”, the simple answer would be that it depends on your perspective.
Matcha Tea benefits, in particular, have, for millennia, impressed casual drinkers and connoisseurs alike. However, we’re not talking about a standalone brew but an ingredient added to famously calorific ice cream.
So keep that fact in mind when you’re tempted by a second helping. With that out of the way, we can move on to providing you with a step by step guide. Just don’t forget the ice cream maker!
Ingredients: Three tbsp of Matcha Green Tea Powder, 1½ cup (360ml) whole milk, ½ cup (120ml) double cream, ½ cup sugar and ⅛ tsp sea salt.
Time Needed: Approx. 7½ hours.
1. Prepare the Ice Cream Bowl.
Your bowl needs to be left in the freezer for 24 hours.
2. Start Creating the Mixture in a Saucepan.
Combine your whole milk and double cream in a medium saucepan along with the sugar and salt.
3. Whisk the Mixture Together.
It needs to be whisked thoroughly until it has reached the right consistency.
4. Time to Add the Matcha Powder.
Add the Matcha Tea using a fine-mesh Tea Strainer.
5. Ready, Steady, Cook!
Continue to medium-heat the mixture until you see small bubbles around its edges. You can then remove it from the heat as you shouldn’t let it boil over.
6. Transfer it to the Bowl.
Get your bowl out of the freezer and pour in the soon-to-be ice cream.
7. Make an Ice Bath.
Don’t worry – it’s not for you but for the bowl to sit in until cool.
8. Leave in the Fridge for a Few Hours.
About three hours should be sufficient.
9. Move on to the Ice Cream Maker.
Follow the ice cream maker’s instructions accordingly.
10. Airtight Container for the Freezer.
You’ll need to transfer the soft ice cream into an airtight container and freeze it for at least four hours before serving. Of course, the longer you leave it, the better.
What Does Green Tea Ice Cream Taste Like?
Ice cream is often an after-dinner treat well-suited to the winding-down part of the evening. That’s all fair and well. But not all kinds of ice cream contain Green Tea.
Which prompts the question: Is there Caffeine in Green Tea ice cream? Indeed there is – anywhere between 25mg and 70mg, depending on the serving size. The bottom line is that you should be wary of having it too near bedtime!
