Assam Tonganagaon FTGFOP1 Organic is an Indian Black Tea. It comes from the Tonganagaon Tea Estate, which uses only organic cultivation and production methods.
This means that it is 100% free of synthetic fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides – thus ensuring the health of local soils and ecosystems. When brewed, it has a distinct malty taste with sweet undertones.
It’s worth noting, too, that Assam Tonganagaon FTGFOP1 contains a considerable amount of caffeine – around 45-mg per cuppa. What’s more, studies indicate that it comes with health benefits.
Best of all, however, is the fact that we pack it fresh to order here at our Kent-based factory. In doing so, we can guarantee not only quality but also consistency, time and time again.
What Does “FTGFOP1” Mean?
Some people jokingly remark that “FTGFOP” stands for “Far Too Good for Ordinary People.” In reality, it means “Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe.” This is a high-calibre Tea grade most famous for having a large proportion of golden tips.
Such tippy-ness tends to provide a smoother, milder flavour, which is especially popular among Tea connoisseurs.
About Tonganagaon Tea Estate
Established in 1927, the Tonganagaon Tea Estate finds itself near the Himalayan foothills and the mighty Brahmaputra river.
Since 2008, it has belonged to the Chamong group of the Lohia family. They have run Tea estates for a remarkable six generations and, presently, have gardens in Darjeeling district (West Bengal, India) as well as across the Assam region.
Mr Ashok Lohia saw the potential in Tonganagaon. At the time, the property was in a neglected and desolate state.
His passion for Assam Tea, however, transformed the estate’s image and the area around it. He turned sick Tea-growing land into flourishing gardens. He renovated the dilapidated factory, which had crumbled to half its original size.
Perhaps most important, Mr Lohia implemented organic farming, all the while replacing old Tea bushes with new plants; 538 hectares of land is now under Tea cultivation.
A modern factory has since replaced the old one, which more than meets the requirements of international buyers. Our Assam Tonganagaon FTGFOP1 Organic stands testament to the family and the workers’ achievements.
