our Assam Hathikuli Organic Tea TGFOP1 is a larger leaf tea from the Hathikuli Tea Garden in Assam. The Smith family has a history with the area, Grandfather Robert Stammers was the manager of the nearby Behora Tea Estate and used to take the family on trips to Hathikuli. The estate borders the Kaziranga National Park which is famous for its Elephants, Tigers and Rhino’s. The actual meaning of Hathikuli in Assamese is “Frequent Elephant”. From the Chung Bungalow’s verandah a path was cut through the long grass “Lambee Ghaas” down to the river Brahmaputra in order to see all the wild animals pass ! Today the estate produces some fine teas. The whole estate became fully organic in 2011.
