What is Earl Grey Green Tea
Did you know that Earl Grey Green Tea is actually a rare variation of the usual Chinese Black Tea? The origins of this unique blend of bergamot and tea leaves can be traced back centuries to when it was used to preserve tea during long overseas journeys.
As for the name, there is a legend that tells the tale of the 19th-century Earl and British Prime Minister who was presented with the special tea infused with bergamot after saving a local boy from drowning in a river while on a diplomatic mission in China. While it may be just a legend, the story of Earl Grey still makes for an interesting piece of history.
Today, this blend we offer is made from a combination of high-quality Chinese green tea and Italian bergamot oil. This special balance creates a refreshing citrus aroma that stands out amongst other traditional teas.
How to Make Green Earl Grey Tea
Making a cup of Green Earl Grey Tea is incredibly simple and requires just two ingredients.
Start by heating filtered water to around 80-85°C (175-185°F) in your favourite teapot or mug. Once the desired temperature is reached, add 1 teaspoon of loose tea leaves for every 8 ounces (240 ml) of water and steep for 2-3 minutes. Finally, strain and enjoy!
For those who prefer something a bit stronger, you can increase the number of tea leaves used without affecting the taste too drastically.
Tasting Notes: When brewed, it gives off a gentle grassy aroma with hints of citrus undertones. The taste is mild and smooth with subtle notes of bergamot flavour that lingers on your palate.
Additions: Enhance your beverage with a dash of honey or a twist of lemon. Alternatively, savour the pure, unadulterated flavour with no additional ingredients.
Caffeine Content: Contains approximately 30-40 mg of caffeine per cup. This amount is lower than that of regular black tea. It is higher than herbal teas like chamomile and rooibos.
